Did you know that Frinton, Essex was once considered the premiere place in the country to go on holiday? Edward, Prince of Wales, visited Frinton a lot and Winston Churchill even rented a house here. The town actually became pretty exclusive, particularly between the two world wars. The Essex sunshine must have had a bit to do with it, but there was also the second best tennis tournament in the country after Wimbledon.
It certainly came a long way, especially if you consider that in 1848 Frinton only had 44 people living there. In 1864 the growth of the railway line up the Essex coast from Thorpe-le-Soken to Walton-on-the-Naze helped to develop the idea of Frinton as a sea side weekend resort. It didn’t actually get a station until 1888 though. But between the years of 1891 and 1911, the town’s population exploded from roughly 87 to 1,510.
From there the community really started to take shape. In 1895 the golf club opened, which was considered one of the most elite in England. Frinton cricket club was established in 1904, and is still there today.
The area still holds on to much of the charm that attracted all those people in what’s been unofficially named the ‘Royal Years’. There’s a certain tranquillity to the place, alongside a real sense of communal pride.
Community is a building block for us, The Corner Stone, as a Frinton home care agency. We believe that the Royal Years are still alive, and endeavour to show this in our care. That’s because choosing the Corner House, is as much a lifestyle choice as anything.
We’re unique in the home care Frinton area. Every person we meet is treated as an individual, we work tirelessly to create individual care plans that work for the people who matter – our guests.
